Preventing Maskne

It's a strange new world we find ourselves in, and "maskne" is a thing here. Maskne can be unsightly, uncomfortable, and even painful. But we have some tips for preventing it! Follow these suggestions to keep your skin safe while you are keeping yourself and others safe.

Choose Cotton Masks.

Choosing reusable cotton masks is a geat idea for many reasons! You can help reserve medical masks for frontline healthcare workers, and cotton masks are a more sustainable option. And when it comes to preventing maskne, cotton masks win hands down. They are much softer and less irritating on skin, which can help cut down on breakouts.

Cleanse Your Face

Washing your face before and after wearing a mask will help prevent acne and breakouts. If you are unable to wash your face, consider using gentle cleansing wipes.

Wash Your Mask

Make sure to wash your reusable masks often. Your mask is going to be pulling pollutants and oils away from your skin and failing to wash your mask often enough can result in redepositing and spreading these pollutants and oils back onto your face.

Skip the Makeup

Consider not wearing makeup or at least cutting back on it here and there. Wearing a steamy mask will enlarge pores, making it easier for dirt and makeup to become trapped and clog your pores.

Protect Skin

Protect your skin with a barrier. Choose products with occlusive ingredients specifically designed for your face.

Salicylic Acid

Use cleansing products with salicylic acid. Breakouts and acne can occur from dirt or dead skin cells clogging your pores. Salicylic acid works to dissolve these irritants, preventing or healing your breakouts.

Treat Yourself

Doing your part to help save the world can be rough! Treat yourself to facials at home! Using at-home spa treatments such as steaming, clay masks, etc., can be very relaxing and soothing but also help to prevent maskne and keep your skin looking beautiful!
