Controlling Oily Skin

Having oily skin is not uncommon and for many people dealing with this issue, it can be frustrating. Beyond adding more shine to your face than you may want, oily skin can cause breakouts and acne or even make it nearly impossible to to keep your makeup on throughout the day. But it is possible to control extra oil! Follow these easy tips to develop a skin care routine that with leave your skin looking and feeling fresh and clean!

Wash Your Face

Duh, right? But seriously, make sure to wash your face every morning and every night. Use a gentle, foaming cleanser and avoid scrubbing. Scrubbing can irritate skin and make your oil glands over-react.

Avoid Alcohol-Based Cleansers

Alcohol-based cleansers can dry skin out and cause your oil glands to produce more oil.

Use Oil-Free Products

Using oil-free skin care products will avoid adding uneccessary oil to your skin.

Use Moisturizer

It may be tempting to skip the moisturizer, but doing so can cause skin to become over-dry and produce even more oil to compensate. Instead, use a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid, which can help balance the oil and water in the skin.

Use Water-Based or Mineral Makeup

Mineral makeup is naturally oil-free and powder-based, which help control shine and oil on skin. Mineral makeup is also lighter weight than traditional makeups, so they won't feel or look caked-on. And always be sure to gently remove any makeup before sleeping.

Use Blotting Papers

Blotting papers are phenomenal at removing extra oil from the face throughout the day. Just press and hold the paper on the oily area for a few seconds, and there you go! Newly mattified skin!

Use Toner

Choose a toner with glycolic and lactic acid, which will remove excess oil and dead skins cells.

Use Clay Masks

Clay masks draw excess oils out of pores, and using them regularly can help control oil production and breakouts.
